STUD

Studs Race - Crucible of Empires

LORE

Made of rock and stone the Studs are one with mother nature and spend most of their time observing. Due to being a silicon based life form, Studs can live for ten’s of thousands of years without growing old and they use this time to gather the story of the universe.

Every/any change that happens to a planet is something a Stud needs to know. It can be anything as grand as tectonic plates shifting underground to a simple pebble falling of a cliff. To a Stud, every rock and every shape is unique no matter the size.

And it is for this reason they travel the stars, to document this grand story on not just their home world, but all worlds.

PERSONALITY

The Studs are a very peaceful race who only wish to be left alone. With so much time on their hands they spend most of it sleeping within the rock of planets or asteroids. But when they’re awake their favorite pastime is conversing with one another on newfound changes to the environment. Nothing is more important to the Studs then history, and to gather it’s history each generation of Stud goes on a great migration once born. This migration sends Studs traveling through the stars learning about new locations and understanding the universe’s history a little more. As peaceful as they are, disrupting this migration would send them into a frenzy. And given that they are not the most intelligent of creatures, their usual strategy is to send everything on their enemies. This can be anything from throwing tiny rocks to gigantic asteroids hurtling towards planets.

HABITABILITY

The planet of Geonara is a starkly beautiful, mineral-rich planet with a dangerous and rugged crystalline landscape. Due to the constant geological activity, it has towering mountains, vast plains of crystal formations and even a dynamic atmosphere of gasses. Studs can be seen as one of the oldest races as they were created at the same time their planet began to form. The first to be born were the mountain sized Terrans who act as the care takers for the species while the Crystalline came a long time after. Due to the massive size of the Terran’s and their inability to move, Studs can only live on rock worlds. This includes asteroid belts for an atmosphere isn’t necessary for the Studs even though it is preferred.

TECHNOLOGY

Most view the technology of the Studs archaic in nature but it’s simplicity is what makes it so incredibly dangerous and hard to counter. Most, if not all of their technology revolves around defense and mitigating as much damage as possible.

The Studs were already hardy but with the crystallugry tree they are able to create compact hulls for their ship that shrug off all damage types and can even reflect some back! And with such strong materials the Studs suffer no damage to ships when it comes to ramming which pairs nicely as they prefer to be in close quarters.

That’s not to say they don’t have decent ranged options. Their shard weapons deal extra damage to enemy hulls while being weak to shields. Defenses can also be applied to their colonies giving them massive bonuses when dealing with enemy bombardments.
